The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) and Parents for Children’s Mental Health (PCMH) are proud to present this recording from a virtual event hosted in May.
The virtual event focused on how we can support our teenage children in the time of COVID-19 and offers both caregiver and teen perspectives on the issues that matter to them.
In this video, we will look at the impact of the pandemic on teen mental health, what we hear in the news and what the ongoing surveys are telling us. We will also hear what teenagers are saying.
Through a developmental lens, we will view our teenagers’ typical behaviours to inform us why this pandemic has been so challenging for them, but also to help us reflect on what it is they need and how we can support them.
Through our co-presenters at PCMH, we hear reflections from a parent or caregiver perspective, as well as from a teen perspective. You will also find resources for accessing mental health supports, as well as additional information and ideas for caring adults and young people.
The talk is geared toward parents and caregivers of tweens and teens, but may be informative for educators and those working with young people and even young people themselves.
