Earlier this week hate-motivated graffiti, in the form of swastikas, was discovered at Glenview and another nearby location. The incident was reported to police, who are currently investigating. The graffiti has since been removed.
We are proud to say that many students who saw the graffiti reported it to school staff, understanding the impact these images would have on the school and surrounding community. We are grateful to those who acted so responsibly.
I want to acknowledge that while all staff and students at Glenview Park are affected by this hate-motivated act, it will be especially impactful to members of the Jewish community. I want to reassure everyone that we are taking this incident very seriously.
As a result of this discovery, we are reminded of the importance of educating our students about the history of antisemitism, to continue this learning throughout the system, and the importance of supporting all students who have been harmed by hate speech or other acts of intolerance.
As we move forward, we will use the tools we know best – education and support – to address the impact this incident has had on our school community.
We encourage anyone with any information relating to the incident to contact police at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the administration.
Sincerely,
Beverly Wood
Principal
